About 1200 years ago, Lord Shiva incarnated as Sri Adi Shankaracharya for the protection of Sanatana Dharma. Vendanta tatva as we all know is very subtle and complex to understand. So, he wrote various Prakarana Granthas to make it simpler for the common man to relate and contemplate. One of such Prakana Granthas is the 'Svatma Nirupanam'. This treatise, Svatma Nirupanam, contains 154 verses, each comprising two lines. It begins with the adoration of the Guru and an enumeration of the qualifications required for a disciple. The first 103 verses cover the Guru's teachings, while the remaining verses detail the disciple's experiences. The author explains the Mahavakya 'TATTVAMASI' using logically irrefutable statements and illustrations. The book was translated to English by Sri Jnanananda Bharati Swamiji and first printed by 'Vani Vilas' press in 1968. Under the guidance of Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji and Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji, the current Pontiff of Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, this book is being reprinted.
