This book contains the original Sanskrit text of the Gita in Devanagari script, followed by an English translation of both the Gita and Adi Sankaracharya's Gita Bhashya, translated by Alladi Mahadeva Sastri. Since its first publication in 1897, this translation has been regarded as the best available English rendition of Adi Sankaracharya's commentary. The learned translator has included footnotes (marked A) with explanations primarily extracted from Anandagiri's Tika, known for its clarity and indispensability in understanding key portions of the Bhashya. Adi Sankaracharya's commentary on the Bhagavad Gita is the earliest known extant commentary. The Gita text, he cited has been regarded as the authentic version through the centuries, and his commentary has been of seminal value ever since. Although later commentators may differ in textual and metaphysical interpretations, the spiritual upliftment derived from reading Adi Sankaracharya's Gita Bhashya is universally acknowledged. One must read it to truly experience its impact.
